Life-Safety Program
Goal:
Create a program to respond to human needs during an emergency, including
safe evacuation, sheltering, connecting employees with their families,
tracking the injured, and purchasing the right emergency supplies.
Deliverables:
-
If not already in place, determine proper emergency exit routes based on
each floor’s configuration of personnel.
-
Create an emergency response team structure that will be equipped to guide
all employees in the proper and safe way to evacuate, drop and cover, or
shelter in place, based on the types of events that the organization anticipates
will occur.
-
Train the emergency response team members on their roles and conduct a
facility walk-through to equip them with the knowledge of how to respond
based on the unique elements of the facility.
-
Conduct an evacuation drill to test the readiness of the emergency response
team and perform a critique of their performance for feedback and improvement.
-
Work with the appropriate safety and human resources managers to develop
emergency policies and procedures to address sheltering, emergency supplies
for employees and response team members, employee notification, and emergency
transportation plans.
-
Work with the appropriate managers to develop all-employee education tools
such as wallet cards, pamphlets, and other media devices to create employee
awareness of the program and the proper actions they should take.
